2016 FIAT 500X vs  Chevrolet Trax near Grand Rapids, MI

The smartly styled 2016 Fiat 500X is no off-roader, but it might be the most useful vehicle from the brand yet. The 2015 Chevrolet Trax offers a useful hatchback shape in a smart package that's more practical than it is stylish.

2016 FIAT 500X Power & Handling

All 500X models except for the base Pop come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is good for 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard. The available all-wheel-drive system disconnects the rear wheels when they aren't needed, such as when cruising on the highway, and can send up to half of the power to the rear when the front wheels lose grip.

Chevrolet Trax Power & Handling

Every 2015 Chevrolet Trax comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. A Trax LTZ with all-wheel drive accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 10 seconds flat. This is about a second slower than similarly sized and purposed small crossovers.

2016 FIAT 500X Features & Design

A subcompact five-passenger crossover SUV, the 2016 Fiat 500X is offered in Pop, Easy, Trekking, Lounge and Trekking Plus models. The Pop comes only with front-wheel drive, while the other models are offered with front- or all-wheel drive. The Trekking gets 18-inch alloy wheels, a more rugged front fascia, foglights, automatic headlights, an upgraded trip computer and upgraded cloth upholstery.

Chevrolet Trax Features & Design

The 2015 Chevrolet Trax is a five-passenger, subcompact crossover SUV offered in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels. Each is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Options are minimal. The LT is offered with a Plus package that includes rear parking sensors, a power driver seat, cloth/leatherette upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as a Sun and Sound package with the Bose audio system and a sunroof.

Conclusions

The FIAT 500x is truly a stand out, offering customers a perfect combination of power, innovation, and character. Boasting tons of cargo space and a uniquely Italian style, the 500X is an easy standout in competition with the Chevrolet Trax. The Trax underwhelms in the competitive crossover segment, and especially bores when placed next to the 500X. The Trax, with its cheap interior design, and sluggish capability, cannot compete with what the 500X offers.
